ABOUT RYSA

Both my husband Shane and I have worked very hard in our lives to achieve the success that we now enjoy living in Maple Ridge with our dog Chewie.  We both love to ride our Harley, I ride a Screamin Eagle Softtail Springer and my husband rides his Ultra Classic.  I grew up in the Lower Mainland hearing the phrase, "Be the change you want to see." While that is a great mantra to live by, you need to be in the position to make these changes happen.  I decided to lean in and get involved because I really enjoy living in Maple Ridge and I want to see positive change happen.

ON THE ISSUES

Maple Ridge is growing at a rapid pace; we need to ensure we have responsible sustainable development, and an increase of economic development, while also maintaining our green space and parks.
.
We need to address affordable housing and our transit issues.
.
Accessibility and inclusion are issue we need to continue to address. I do not want anyone to feel less valued because of their varied abilities. I will continue the work to ensure all citizens feel included and valued. This includes our drug addicted population; housing our addicted population is the first step to their stability. The next is treatment and treatment centers, which would include more funding and resources for those already working with our drug addicted population.  Along with our safe injection sites the need for counseling and supporting those who need help, when someone steps forward we should have the resources in place to ensure they get treatment. Many of our homeless and drug addicts have learning disabilities, undiagnosed and untreated mental illnesses and absolutely no life skills. Not only do we need to council, help with detox but also teach life skills.  Housing, counseling and detox are certainly required but getting clean can be scary if you have no idea how to cook, clean, do laundry or even go shopping, deciding what to make for dinner can be very stressful if you have not had a meal cooked by yourself for years if ever.
I have the ability and tenacity to work towards positive solutions to difficult issues.
